Create a local web site folder
Setup your remote web site

Use the Site Window to open or create new pages
Create new pages from the template
Add and edit text, including special characters
Format the text with different format such as:
Indent, alignment, color, bold, underline, bulleted and numbered lists
Do not change the font size (see Template and Styles slide)

Format the image with alignment, link it to web site, give it a border
Insert a few different hyperlinks
Link to a external web site http://www.nasa.gov
Link to a web page in your own area

Cut and paste links to save typing

Five Easy Steps to Publishing Pages
Open the page or create a new page from the template in the local site folder
Make your changes and save the page
Preview in Browser and check your links, Check each page in all of these browsers:
Internet Explorer 5.x
Netscape Communicator 4.7x
Netscape 6.2.x
“Put” the page on the remote site
Open your web browser and go to the live web page
Templates and Styles
The look and feel of all your web pages are automatically formatted using:
The Dreamweaver Template controls the layout of the page
The Cascading Style Sheet controls the font size for body of the web page.
Why use the template and style sheet?
A consistant professional look and feel
Make one change to the style sheet and template and those changes are applied to all pages that use them.
Prevent accidental changes and errors when editing or creating web pages
One change will update my entire web site pages!!

Check spelling
Insert date
This should be set to automatically update when you make a change and save the web page.
Please install this at the top or bottom of each page
Import data from other file formats:
FileMaker Pro
Excel
Word table
Find and Replace
This feature can be used to change text and source code for the entire page, pages open, or your entire web site area.
More Advanced Features Continued
Assets Panel
This is the best way to add a variety of existing content to your web site.
This feature catalogs all of your web site’s assets:
Images
Hyperlinks
Colors
Etc…
You can then easily insert these items into pages by using the click and drag method

Customize Dreamweaver in the Preferences
Set the default connection speed to 56k
You can adjust the screen resolution at the bottom of each page window.
Set the proper file extension to .html for all PC users in the general preferences section
Edit or add three web browsers to use for “Preview in Browser”
Change your visual aides, rulers,  code views and other to show or hide invisible elements as needed.

Login and Setup
Login to the machine in front of you
Login: webkeepers
Password: Dreamweaver
Open Dreamweaver.
Go to the site menu…Define Site..New Site
Site Name: New Web Site
Local Folder: click the folder icon and navigate to select the Webkeeper folder on the desktop.
Remote Info:
Server Access is FTP
Host: education.ucsb.edu
Use the login and password above
Create a New Web Page from the Template
Open the Site Menu…go to define site and choose your site. Connect to the remote site.
In the local section of the Site Window, click on the Template Folder…template.dwt
Make some edits and add some text and maybe an image or two from your local web site folder.
Follow the Five Steps Program.
Edit a Web Page
In the local section of the Site Window, open any htmldreamweaver file.
Make some edits and add some text and maybe an image or two from your local web site folder.
Make a link that refers to the new page that you just created earlier
Remember to use a relative link
Again use the famous five steps method.
