Ronin consulting was formed by a need to provide services to consultants without taking away the majority of their pay.
Until now a consultant had two choices. The first was to work with a company that provided the stability and fringe benefits of medical, a support staff, sales reps looking for the next position and job security. (Job security as of late seems to be disappearing, as consultants on the bench are let go faster than ever before.) However, an absurd amount of the consultant's pay went to the company. I myself have billed out at $245 an hour, while only getting paid $85,000 a year. I really didn't think that the $415,000 a year the company pocketed was fair.
The only other choice, was to go 'independent', which involved outrageous tax rates, high medical insurance, no benefits and no job security. Even worse, after you came off an assignment, you had to become your own sales rep. Something I have always found difficult. For a while you were unemployed, with no unemployment benefits.
The solution is a not-for-profit company that provides services to project managers. By being not-for-profit all the money goes to the consultants, through pay, benefits, support, qualified sales reps. finding your next assignment and security. In essence a co-op for consultants.
